For the third time, famous French band Dionysos brings in Stéphane Berla to direct their music video. After “Neige“ and “Tais-toi mon cœur”, he writes and directs the video for “Cloudman”, the first single from the band’s new album Bird'N'roll, to be released on March 26th.
Tom Cloudman is the main character of this first single. “The worst stuntman in the world and galaxy” shows his performances as an awkward comic hero in this burlesque video, more energetic and incarnate than the previous ones.
Dionysos comes up with the idea of a Bird'N'roll contest, a zany semi choreographed dance inspired by the moves of a bird (choreography by Johanna Hilaire). The band likes creative confrontations to produce artistic sparks, they really need to be surprised as long as you stick to what they like.
Tom Cloudman is also the hero of “Métamorphoses en bord de ciel”, a lyric novel by Mathias Malzieu, bandleader. Stéphane Berla is the one who suggests integrating the “werebird” and its metamorphosis in order to add some mood and weirdness, as an allusion to Mathias’ book.
A one-day shooting at Théâtre du Renard to make a three-minute film with 30 extras and make-up/ transformation scenes (see images enclosed). ChezEddy was in charge of post-production, including SFX for the opening sequence, and the shots for bird’s transformation and explosion.
We are looking forward to Dionysos’ new collaboration with Stéphane Berla, who is currently codirecting the feature film “La Mécanique du Coeur” with Mathias Malzieu, author of the book of the same name.
