Jali, a new figure on the French folk scene, just released his first single “Española”. A folk-reggae song set off by brass that comes with an animation webisode produced by ChezEddy, directed by -U- & JeanJean and proposed by Barclay!
Jali and Barclay fell head over hills for -U- & JeanJean’s design and direction style, which they discovered on ChezEddy’s 2011 greeting card. An uncluttered, colorful and lighthearted style, with caricatural and happy characters. It’s a perfect match to Jali’s music style, tinged with warm colors in a lively mood and fueled with a whole load of instruments.
A real treat for -U- & JeanJean who did a great job in shaking their creativity to serve Jali’s ideas.
Technically, all means of transportation were made for real with paper. They where then animated in stop-motion and on After Effects.
This webisode is the first of a series of four, which will all present Jali’s first four songs.
Launched by Barclay, this Rwandan 22-year old songwriter and singer lived in Belgium. In his first album (to be released in October), Jali looks at the world with a lucid and offbeat eye. His folk songs with very poetic lyrics are inspired by his double cultural heritage.
A special thanks to Barclay and Jali for their trust on this project. It has been a very pleasant collaboration!
